Clissold Rangers: How The Captain's Mum Sees It

Usually at the weekend we split the sporting duties. Jeff does the outdoor sporting pursuits - the football. I do the indoor ones--tennis and swimming (in the warmth, with a cup of coffee and a magazine, so no contest). He does the 7.30am Match of the Day Sunday sitting, I do the mum's much-needed Sunday lie-in (back of the net!).

However, with Sunday's after-match dinner comprising of listening to Oscar's lively match reports over a roast, with dad's punditry on the side, it is necessary to occasionally get out to the windy wilds of Wanstead flats to touch base watching the current young invincibles. There has been a lot of praise for the boys and the standard of the football they have been playing so far this season. The times I have watched them I can see why.

Today's match is no exception. It is played at a furious pace and the first half flashes by in a blink of an eye. The boys need their oranges at half time (generously supplied by one of the mums). Goodness I even need one.

The second half is just as fast and furious and is over in a flash. The score is 3–0 with goals from Oscar, Seydil and Maxwell. It could have been more and I don't think the opposition had a shot on goal.

The car journey back consists of Oscar's and Seydil's lively post-match analysis with some extra punditry from the dads. Obviously Oscar's analysis continues at the dinner table and this week I'm more than able to play Alan Shearer to Jeff's Alan Hanson.

Keep winning boys I'll be back to cheer in a couple of weeks!
