National Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place each year on the 27 January. People around the world are still facing breaches to their human rights just because of who they are or what their views are. We must learn the lessons of the past and challenge unfairness to avoid repeating tragic events such as the Holocaust.

Holocaust Memorial Day, 28 January 2013, 10.30am to 1.30pm, Assembly Hall, Islington Town Hall

The event will be commemorating the Holocaust and past genocides. The event will examine the reality of genocide and look at its relevance in the world today.

The event will hear from two genocide survivors whose stories are both sad and compelling and illustrate the devastation genocide had on their lives.  Eve Kanner Kugler, a Holocaust Survivor, will be giving her testament alongside Sophie Masereka a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide. We will have a speaker from Amnesty International who will highlight how genocide is still an on-going issue. The speakers will also be participating in a panel discussion chaired by Jeremy Corbyn MP, offering members of the audience the opportunity to ask their own questions and participate in a wider discussion around genocide.

Please could you confirm whether you will be able to attend by contacting Craig Smith by craig.g.smith@islington.gov.uk or please call 020 7527 3117.
