Ofsted inspectors have said that Islington's Kate Greenaway Nursery and Children's Centre is continuing to offer local children 'outstanding' education and care.

The nursery based in N1, has once again been judged as 'outstanding' in every category - as it was after its previous inspection in 2010.

Highlights from the latest inspection report include:

*Teaching is outstanding, with a strong focus on developing children's speaking and listening skills.

*Children make rapid gains and achieve extremely well in all aspects of their development.

*Children really love learning and all children fulfil their potential.

*Children's behaviour is exemplary, when either working with an adult or playing independently.

*Support for children new to learning English, disabled children and those with special educational needs, is excellent and allows these children to make the same outstanding progress as their peers.

Ofsted inspectors praised the 'outstanding leadership' of headteacher at Kate Greenaway, Fiona Godfrey, along with the supportive deputy head and governing body.  Fiona Godfrey said:

"We are delighted with this outcome. Our hardworking and well qualified team make a positive difference to the children who attend Kate Greenaway. We have had excellent support from both the local authority and our governing body."

The 'close, trusting relationships' that children at Kate Greenaway form with adults were noted in the inspection report, creating an 'exceptionally warm, caring, safe atmosphere' at the centre.

Islington Council's executive member for children and families, Cllr Richard Watts, said:

"Congratulations to all the staff at Kate Greenaway.  The nursery school and children's centre is continuing to offer the highest quality care and education along with important support and services for local families.   We want to make Islington a fairer place, where all children in the borough have access to excellent nurseries and children's centres like this one."

Further to being rated as outstanding in two consecutive Ofsted reports, Kate Greenaway nursery and children's centre is 'constantly striving to reflect on best practice and still look for ways to improve teaching and children's achievement.'
