Action from Islington Police and Islington Council has led to the closure of two suspected "crack houses" in Finsbury Park.

Highbury Magistrates' Court granted a Drug Closure Order at a flat in Seven Sisters Road, which runs until 20 January, and another at a flat in Williamson Street, which runs until 26 March.

Islington Police, in partnership with the council and Circle 33 Housing Trust, secured the closure orders following local concerns about drug-taking at both premises and the effects on people living nearby.

Drug Closure Orders can only be secured where there is evidence of Class A drug use as well as disorder and serious nuisance to the community.

Islington police have arrested three men at the Seven Sisters Road address for breaching the closure order.

Sergeant Paul Cruise, from Finsbury Park Safer Neighbourhoods team, said: "The tenacity of local residents and the council must be praised.

"We were able, through partnership work, to gather enough evidence together to secure a closure order on these addresses that had blighted the local community with their anti-social activity. Anyone caught breaching these orders will be prosecuted.

"Residents in this area should be reassured that we take all reports of crime and anti-social behaviour seriously and will act on any information received."

Cllr Paul Convery, Islington Council's executive member for community safety, said: "Drug-taking at these addresses has been a nightmare for the local community and we're pleased the court supported these orders.

"We won't put up with drug abuse blighting residents' lives and we will take action to clean up our community."

Drug Closure Orders prevent access to a property, stopping crime and anti-social behaviour for people living nearby and giving time for landlords to repossess the properties.
