Two pitbulls were destroyed at the weekend after being picked up in a raid on the Six Acres Estate in Finsbury Park. Why are pitbulls still around years after they were banned? Why keep such dangerous dogs in a house with 3 young children? It's askin

I am addicted to Battersea dog home website www.battersea.org.uk as they have a gallery of all the disowned dogs and cats that they are looking after seeking a new owner and I have dreams of one day rescuing! Anyway the point is that I am always amazed how many of the dogs (nearly all) are Staffordshire Bull Terriers that seem to be the new pitbull in that they are the new urban gritty accessory for people seeming to think they can command respect and induce fear on a lead. They are the obvious breed of dog for people that want to look hard and unsurprisingly this is reflected in all the poor homeless dogs that are then discarded and left to Battersea Dog home to accommodate, love and rehome. MP George Galloway called for them to be banned as well I believe recently which offended alot of loving Staff owners understandably - but I think the relevance is that there will always be a breed of dog that people persist in getting because their reasons for owning it are not to have a loving companion but to have a status symbol which ultimately ends in tears - if not for the owners, then for the dogs.
