Finsbury Park hotspot for home insurance claims

Consumer comparison site moneysupermarket.com this week revealed that Finsbury Park is in the fourth most likely district in the UK to claim on home contents insurance. The report analysed over 1.1 million home

insurance enquiries made on the site in 2009.

Unsurprisingly, half of the

of the top 20 postcodes most likely to have made a claim for

theft are in London, with N4 the third most likely London postcode to claim.  Chorlton-cum-Hardy in the Manchester suburbs sits at the top of the table, with 8.65% of households making a claim related to theft in 2009.

Blackheath (SE3) and Hammersmith (W6) are the

most 'at-risk' postcode districts in London for theft-related insurance

claims, followed by Finsbury Park.  

"Major cities, like

London and Manchester, and affluent areas are a target for criminals," says moneysupermarket's Julie Owens. "It is clear that no matter where you live, there is

always a risk your home could become a victim of theft and it is

therefore vital you have adequate home insurance cover in place."

"You

never know when an opportunistic thief may strike, so it's crucial you

ensure home contents insurance is fully up to date, and is at a high

enough level to cover all belongings sufficiently," she added.

The Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhoods Team also advise taking simple steps such as locking windows and doors, keeping high-value items out of sight and locked away, installing security lighting or a home alarm system, and marking property with a UV marking kit.
