Finsbury Park residents tired of dog mess on the streets will be delighted to hear about Islington Council's new purchase of a "Poover", the first of its kind in the country.

The Poover is a modified 125cc motorbike fitted with a water-jet and a suction device, to loosen and then remove the faeces - the storage tank can hold up to 25 litres. A detergent spray finishes the job by sterilising the area, leaving the streets clean and fragrant.

Cllr Ruth Polling says: “Islington residents have long made it very clear

that promoting responsible dog ownership is a top priority for them. While

many residents do the right thing and clean up after their pets, there

are still some people who leave the mess behind which is unsightly and

unpleasant. Our street sweepers work very hard, seven days a week and the Poover is another way Islington Council is tackling the issue.”
