Hackney Council has received a gold rating for "green spending" from the Mayor of London thanks to its focus on buying recycled and sustainable products.

New solar powered pay-and-display machines save 72 tonnes of CO2 each year and the Council's fleet of electric vehicles continues to increase year on year.

Councillor Sophie Linden said "The Council is committed to maintaining Hackney as the greenest borough in London by putting the environment at the heart of how we deliver services. There's still a good way to go and this is a step in the right direction."
