First elected in October 2002, Jules Pipe has served Hackney as Mayor for almost eight years, and was recently returned to the post with over 54% of the borough vote in an election that saw record turnout.

Mayor Pipe said after the declaration, "I'm honoured that the people of Hackney have again put their faith in me, and I'm looking forward to fighting for a fairer future for the borough."

The Mayor is one of only twelve elected Mayors in the UK, and leads the council with responsibility for the budget and Council services.

Mayor Pipe recently reaffirmed his priorities for the council over the next parliamentary term. "The Council has worked hard over recent years to improve services. I am determined that improvement will continue, while still keeping the Hackney element of the Council Tax as low as possible."

Area priorities include raising educational standards, in particular GCSE pass-rates; improved  sustainability and energy-saving throughout the borough; and good homes for all Hackney residents."At a time of housing shortage, we intend to deliver one of the largest affordable and council house building programmes in London," says Pipe.

Mayor Pipe is eager to hear residents' views on his plans for the borough. Contact the Mayor's office, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, on mayor@hackney.gov.uk or 020 8356 3220.
