The new team will work borough-wide to continue the good work Islington police have done in the past four years to bring down crime rates in the borough - domestic burglaries have fallen by 20% and robberies by 9%. The officers will provide extra police cover at evenings and weekends, focussing on housing areas and outdoor spaces such as parks.
Council Leader Terry Stacy said, “Having extra police on the beat is one of the best ways to tackle crime, so this new police team will make a big difference to all of us." The reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour, in particular violent crimes, substance misuse and young people's behaviour, are major issues for the borough. Islington's crime rates, measured by the British Crime Survey, are going down faster than those any other London borough, and this new team is sure to help that trend continue.
