A bit of an odd place, this, but most definitely in a charming way. Cats is a sprawling place filled with bizarre carved wooden furniture - indeed, some of the tables come with their own lanterns hanging from the archway built around them, and the chairs are rather ostentatious - but rather than being tacky, it's all good fun.
The food is good and fresh too - full of flavour unlike some of the thai places springing up across London. The special pineapple rice dish sums Cats up fairly well. Incredibly tasty and a little daft - served inside a pineapple. Of course.

First things first - the food in Cats is excellent. Great pad thai, very good fishcakes, nice spicy salads. This is top notch stuff, as good a Thai meal as you'll get outside zone 1 and right on the doorstep.
The funny thing about Cats, though, is not that they have a Tuk Tuk in the window (though that is pretty funny) but that the place is absolutely HUGE! From the outside it looks like a bar with a few tables down the side, but venture further in and you realise that once upon a time two - or maybe three, or four - houses have been knocked through to make the place. There's a lot of Cats, and just as well cos with food this good it's going to be busy.

ReportThe first thing that strikes you about Cats Cafe Des Artistes is the fascinating decor - carved wood tables and chairs and a vast number of Thai artifacts on the walls. The ambience of the restaurant is a reason in itself to visit.
There's nothing particularly adventurous about the menu options on offer - various tempura, dumplings and clear soups to start, and a range of colourful curry mains - but what's there is is well-cooked and presented, with flavours ranging from aromatic to knock-out hot.
Cats is a place we keep returning to - it's a good-value choice in an interesting location, and often full at weekends with satisfied customers who agree.
