Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe has called on community sports clubs across the UK to join the Community Amateur Sports Clubs scheme in order to enjoy tax benefits and reclaim Gift Aid on donations.

Hands up if you want tax savings for your club!
The scheme is open to all sports clubs that are formally constituted, organised on an amateur basis, open to the whole community and that engage in a sport recognised by Sport England. A list of recognised sports can be found here.
Benefits of registering with the scheme include exemption from Corporation Tax for groups whose turnover is less than £30,000, mandatory rate relief, and the ability to reclaim tax from HMRC Charities on all charitable gifts (at a current rate pf 28p per £1 donated), meaning sports clubs' incomes can stretch further.
Sutcliffe told CASC registered clubs in Sheffield last week, "Sports clubs will play a crucial role in helping us
reach our goal of getting 2 million people more active by 2013. Being
part of the scheme means that clubs will have more funds at their
disposal to help increase participation.”
To date, almost 5,500 amateur sports clubs in the UK have registered with the scheme, but the Minister expressed his concern that thousands more were "missing out".
