Five Go Footballing in Finsbury Park

Haringey Council is to consult local residents about plans for ten new 5-a-side football pitches in Finsbury Park. The pitches would be located near the Endymion Road entrance. Netball and tag rugby could also be played on the pitches if they are built.
Subject to the results of the consultation and to planning permission, the council would seek a developer and let to a private operator, with facilities made available to residents at a subsidised rate. In addition to the pitches, councillors are proposing a new pavilion with changing rooms and a bar, and up to 80 new parking spaces.
"No decisions have been taken and we are keen to hear the views of interested parties, including local residents, " said Haringey Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Dhiren Basu. "Finsbury Park has some excellent facilities and these
plans would help meet the high demand for five-a-side pitches in the
borough."
Sport and lesiure actvities are already well-catered for at the park, with newly refurbished tennis courts, a baseball and softball pitch, a grass pitch for soccer and rugby, a bowling green and skate park. The latest proposals respond to high demand for more football facilities in the borough.
The consultation will take place this Spring, with open days being held at the park on April 9 and 10 this year.

ReportFive aside pitches may be in short supply, but so are green SAFE spaces. This scheme sounds crazy. Not only the space that 10 5 a side pitches will take up, but more poinient is the fact that they are thinking of building a pavillion with room for 80 cars. I thought we were trying to cut pollution and limit the use of motor vehicles? What about the traffic in and out of the park. I use this park every single day of the week to walk my dogs and so do many more people, not to mention young children, with room for 80 cars the flow of traffic will be a huge hazzard as currently 90% of the children play areas are situated close to the endymion road gates.
